TThis is my first time traveling abroad. I have always dreamed of visiting Japan, and that dream has finally come true. When I arrived at Narita Airport, I was very excited. As I took the train from Narita to Chiba, I experienced some of the advanced technology from home, including the train, many different types of vending machines, and, of course, Suica. Japan appears to be very orderly and clean, which is different from my own country.

I love the teachers very much because they gave us a warm welcome, always helping us and making me feel as if I had become a member of their family. It is comforting to experience that degree of acceptance. Not only did the teachers welcome us but the students did, too, so I felt as though I had another family in Japan that I could depend on. They showed me the importance of appreciating one another.

During this program, I learned many things; in particular, I learned that in nursing care, a nurse must not only care for the patient but also try to understand the patient’s culture. I met students from other countries, such as Korea and China, and I lived with a Korean student. In our dormitory, we shared many things. We tried to speak in each other’s language and understand each other’s habits. I found the experience very enjoyable. We eventually managed to understand each other. The best experienced I had was participating in every program offered, because each one filled me with admiration.

I admired the manner in which the lessons were delivered, and I admired the culture and customs in Japan. I am very grateful to have been involved with transcultural nursing in Chiba and hope that someday this program will be held in Indonesia, where I will share the customs, culture, and tourism of my own country.
