Purpose

Japan has the highest proportion of elderly citizens in the world and is facing an era of high mortality. To establish the EOLC to support the elderly live in affluence until the end of their lives, an interdisciplinary research team was formed consisting of 27 researchers from nine areas: nursing, medicine, engineering, horticulture, health economics and policy, education, ethics, philosophy of law, and politics. They were divided into four groups called AGED.
Each group was assigned the following goals.
Advance Care Planning Research Group
Development and implementation of EOL communication tool using ICTs
Global Research Group
Establishment of Joanna Briggs Institute Centre of Excellence and contribution to evidence-based EOLC
Education and Learning Research Group
Development and implementation of EOLC educational program for citizens, healthcare professionals and healthcare-related students
Development of Practice Research Group
Development of a censored physical activity distance observation system for older residents in long-term care facilities.
