Step 2 (Second Year)

Step 2 “Creation” is a step where students gain the ability to understand each team member’s role and function and effectively build the team.

Step 2 takes place in the first half of the second year (from late May to early July, a total of 7 sessions). Based on the study outcomes in Step 1, students learn and examine about specific team building. They will work in groups to consider future IPW and give presentations at the Study Outcome Presentation by taking into account the Field Visit Practical Training at two medical, health, and welfare facilities.
*The following describes the actual implementation for the fiscal year 2013.

[Students]

A total of 291 students including 116 sophomores from the School of Medicine, 86 sophomores from the School of Nursing, and 89 sophomores from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences

[A Look at Class]

  1. 11_2_001A look at the orientation and lecture
Everyone gathered around at Chiba University Hospital’s lecture hall 1 to learn IPW lessons such as the reality of IPW, each professional’s role, and basic knowledge on team-building.
  2. 11_2_002 Group work in preparation for the practical training
Students conduct group work to discuss about the characteristics of each facility/organization, professionals who work there, and cooperation in preparation for the practical training at two facilities. Furthermore, they assess necessary preparation, knowledge that they currently lack, etc. and formulate action plans in order to make the practical training worthwhile.
  3. 11_2_003Dos and don’ts at the practical training
Students receive explanation on pointers for communicating with people who will take care of them at the practical training sites and the dress code for the practical training. Students’ own accepted practice often defy common sense.
  4. 11_2_004Group work after completing the practical training
A unit is formed by combining two groups that participated in the practical training at different facilities to have discussions. They will summarize and share own practical training experience and discuss in details regarding the reality of team cooperation and joint work, effective team-building/cooperation/joint work, skills required for professionals, etc. and prepare materials for the presentation.
  5. 11_2_005Study Outcome Presentation
Based on the materials completed by group work, students will report on their study outcome at the presentation. Through discussion and sharing with students in other groups, faculty members, and professionals, they identify next learning tasks for them to further work on.
